FAQ

Q: Can I be added to your waitlist?

A: Our puppies are not sold on a first come, first served basis.

We breed a limited number of puppies each year. Litters are carefully planned around the primary focus of producing our next show prospect, additional puppies are then made available to only the best of homes.

If you would like to be considered for a puppy, please email or call us. We will want to know some details about yourself, your Shiba/dog experience & the type of home you can offer a puppy.

For a list of ANKC/Dogs Australia Registered Breeders, please visit www.dogzonline.com.au

Q: How much does a Shiba Inu cost to buy?

A: Puppy prices will vary breeder to breeder. The price for a Shiba Inu puppy in Australia tends to vary between AUD$5,000-$6,500.

Occasionally, breeders may have older puppies or adult show/breeding dogs that are looking for their retirement home, these may cost less than typical puppy price.

Q: Do you Health Test your dogs?

A: Yes. All of our dogs we intend to breed from will have passing scores for;

  • Hip scored - ANKC/Dogs Australia CHEDS
  • Eyes tested - ANKC/Dogs Australia ACES
  • Patellas certified (0:0) - Veterinarian; &
  • DNA tested for GM1/GM2 (Gangliosidosis) - Orivet

Q: What is Breeder's Terms?

Breeder's Terms means a dog is placed in to your care to live a regular family life while remaining part of our endeavor to produce excellent quality, responsibly-bred Shibas. We offer this program rather than keeping a large number of dogs in our home so that all of our dogs can receive the one-on-one attention, love & training they deserve.

You will be required to pay a deposit, a portion of the regular purchase price, which will be refunded after a litter from your Shiba is born.

To be considered for our Breeder's Terms Program, you must;

  • Live in South-East Queensland;
  • Have a secure, fenced yard; and
  • Have no other entire (undesexed) dogs.

Breeder's Terms are only offered on a case-by-case basis, when we have an exceptional puppy or young dog who will be valuable to our program. You are under no obligation to accept a puppy from us with Breeder's Terms.

If you would like to know more, please Contact Us.

Q: What paperwork will come with my Shiba?

A: You will be provided;

  • Dogs Queensland Pedigree Papers - Companions will be on the Limited Register (Not for showing or breeding - No exceptions),
  • DNA Proof of Parentage (Orivet),
  • Vaccination Certificate/Book,
  • Microchip Registration Details/Transfer Form,
  • Veterinarian Health Certificate,
  • Fit to Fly Certificate (for puppies flying to their new home only).

Q: Can I visit your home and/or meet your dogs?

A: All approved applicants will be given the opportunity to visit our home and meet us & our dogs, in fact, we encourage it! We will do our best to be accommodating but cannot normally guarantee a visit day & time months in advance. Visits are likely to be scheduled 2-3wks ahead of time.

We do not invite every inquiry we receive to our home, nor do we allow people in our home when we have a pregnant girl or very young babies. This is for our/our dog's health, safety & privacy.

If you're wanting to meet a Shiba or get a "Shiba fix", please Contact Us & we can advise on Shiba Meets or Dog Shows in your area where you can meet with Us or other Shiba Owners/Breeders.

Q: Are Shiba suitable for homes with children?

A: They can be. As with any breed, the individual personality of the dog, combined with the way in which they're raised (what is "normal" for them) will determine compatibility.

We recommend in general;

  • that young children are never left unsupervised with dogs;
  • that children are never allowed to rough-handle or climb over/lay on dogs;
  • that all dogs be given a "safe place" to be fed/rest where no children are allowed.

This applies to all breeds of dogs.

If you would like to discuss this further, please Contact Us.

Q: Will I get to choose my puppy?

A: No. While consideration will be given to your preference of gender & colour, the final decision on which puppy you will be offered will be Ours.

Q: Do Shibas shed/lose coat?

A: YES! Shibas shed their coat twice a year. We like to joke that "they shed twice a year, for 6mths at a time", but this is not really the case.

BUT! When they do shed, it will be messy. It will feel like they've been shedding forever. You will find Shiba hair everywhere (even in rooms they don't typically go). We don't tell you this to scare you off, We tell you so you're prepared!

Q: I/We live outside of Australia and wish to purchase a Shiba. Can you arrange this?

A: We are not able to accommodate overseas buyers.
