Breeders Terms

A couple proudly posing with their Shiba Inu and a large award ribbon.

About

Breeders Terms means a dog is placed in to your care, to live a regular family, life while remaining part of our endeavor to produce exceptional Shibas in to the future. We offer this program rather than keeping a large number of dogs in our home so that all of our dogs can receive the one-on-one attention, love & training they deserve.

This program is offered on a limited basis (not from every litter) & only to suitable families.

Benefits

  • You will have an exceptional quality family pet;
  • The puppy can enjoy a regular, family life - having a whole household of their own to shower them with love & attention;
  • You will be able to follow along with the growth & future achievements of the offspring of your Shiba & will be given the opportunity to visit with the puppies to help us socialise them;
  • The deposit required is a fraction of the regular purchase price of a puppy;
  • You will receive your deposit back at completion of the first litter; and receive a payment in thanks at the completion of second litter (if we wish to have a second litter - we will never ask for more than 2 litters); and
  • We will pay for spay (desexing) at the completion of the agreement.

Costs

You will be required to pay a deposit on the puppy. We require the puppy be maintained on a high quality diet, appropriate parasite treatments & that you provide routine veterinary care (vaccinations etc). All veterinary costs associates with breeding (health testing, ultrasounds.) will be paid for by Us.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will not differ greatly to what I expect for any puppy who leaves my care.  She must be kept healthy by means of quality diet/suitable exercise/parasite prevention. She must have access to a secure (fenced) yard for play, attend (at minimum) a puppy preschool course, sleep in your home & be a loved member of your family.

The differences between having a regular companion puppy & one on Breeders Terms:

  • You will experience seasons. During this time, your puppy/dog must not be left unattended outside of your house (even in the yard) at any time;
  • I must be notified at the beginning every season;
  • Your Shiba will be required to come 'home' to us for breeding & then to whelp/raise their litter.

Suitability

You must;

  • live in South East Queensland;
  • have a secure, fenced yard; and
  • have no other entire (undesexed) dogs at the premises.

Considerations

Having a puppy on Breeder's Terms may not be for everyone. It is a big responsibility to be a part of our breeding program, we take ethical breeding very seriously. A high level of trust & communication must be maintained for & by both parties.

Your Shiba will be required to spend time with us; typically when she is ready to be bred (usually around 1-2 weeks duration) & must then return to us when she is 7 weeks pregnant & remain until her puppies are 8 weeks old (approximately 10 weeks duration). We understand this may feel like quite a period of time, but you will receive regular updates/pictures & will be able to visit once her puppies are around 4 weeks old & not solely dependent on her.

The puppy/dog will remain our legal property until such time as the Breeders Terms agreement are met. Once spayed (desexed) at the completion of our agreement, the microchip & pedigree papers will be transferred to your name & she will be legally owned by your family.

If it is found you are not fulfilling the terms of our agreement (allowing her to roam, not providing adequate care, or, allow her to be accidentally or purposefully bred to any dog not of our choosing), she will be returned to us.

For any questions regarding our Breeders Terms, please Contact Us.

Aiko is a part of our Breeders Terms program but also sometimes plays Show Dog & participates in Lure Coursing. Aiko has excelled at both and is a Best in Show Winner along with being the first Shiba in Australia with a Lure Coursing title (J.C).

If you would like to see your Breeders Terms puppy strut their stuff in the show ring, I am more than happy to present them for you.
